Managing Partner
Hussein Bhaiji leads Merit Accountants and is the Chartered Tax Adviser behind the firm’s approach: proactive tax planning rather than filing after the fact. Before moving into practice, Hussein worked inside HMRC, and that experience shapes how every client position is prepared: planned in advance, reviewed with tax-trained eyes, and demonstrably defensible.
Qualifications and memberships
Hussein is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), the highest tax qualification in the UK, awarded by the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He received the Chris Jones Prize from the Chartered Institute of Taxation and brings 20 years of experience in UK taxation, including his time working inside HMRC.
What Hussein leads
Hussein oversees the firm’s tax advisory work and leads the structured review cycle every Merit client receives: tax positions checked monthly, quarterly and before each year end, so opportunities are taken while there is still time to act. He also leads our HMRC investigations defence, where his inside knowledge of how enquiries are run changes how they end.
Guides written for clients
Hussein writes the firm’s practical tax guides, including salary vs dividends for 2026/27, escaping the 60% tax trap and reducing tax on rental income. Each one uses current tax year figures and shows the numbers rather than the theory.
