Bookkeeping Services in Tameside
Bookkeeping is the part of the job most business owners want to stop doing and the part most accountants treat as an afterthought. That is the wrong way round. Your bookkeeping is where every number in your year end accounts comes from, and it is also the only thing that can tell you how the business is doing while there is still time to change it.
We provide bookkeeping and management accounts for businesses across Tameside from our office at Phoenix House, 2 Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge.
What our Tameside bookkeeping service covers
- Recording and categorising every transaction, weekly or monthly
- Bank reconciliations so the books agree with the bank, every period
- Sales and purchase ledger management, so you know who owes you and who you owe
- VAT return preparation and submission under Making Tax Digital
- Monthly or quarterly management accounts with commentary
- Cloud software setup, migration and training for your team
Why bookkeeping matters more than it used to
Two things changed. The first is Making Tax Digital, which now requires digital records and quarterly submissions for a growing number of businesses. Annual box filing is on its way out. The second is that cloud software has made real time information genuinely available, which means there is no longer a good reason to find out in January how the year to March went.
Example. A Tameside business with a March year end discovered in the following November that gross margin had fallen four points from the previous year. By then the year was closed, eight months had passed, and the cause was untraceable. Monthly management accounts would have flagged it in month two, when a supplier price rise was still something that could be renegotiated or passed on. The bookkeeping cost the same either way. The difference was entirely in whether anybody was reading it.
Cloud accounting software we work with
Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent. If you are still on spreadsheets and Making Tax Digital is about to reach you, we will handle the migration and train whoever needs to use it.
Bookkeeping reviewed by a Chartered Tax Adviser
This is the part that makes a difference and the part most bookkeeping services cannot offer. A bookkeeper records transactions accurately. Our bookkeeping is reviewed alongside your tax position, by people who are Chartered Tax Advisers as well as Chartered Accountants.
In practice that means the categorisation questions get answered correctly the first time, expenses that are allowable get claimed rather than missed, and things that will matter at the year end are flagged in month three rather than discovered in month fourteen.
Who we do this for in Tameside
Businesses in Stalybridge, Ashton-under-Lyne, Hyde, Denton, Droylsden, Dukinfield, Mossley, Audenshaw and across the borough, plus Glossop just over the Derbyshire border. Trades and construction, retail, manufacturing, care providers, professional services and online sellers. Everything runs on cloud software, so where you are makes no practical difference to how it works.

Frequently asked questions about bookkeeping in Tameside
It depends on transaction volume rather than turnover, which is why a quote needs a short conversation first. We charge a fixed monthly fee agreed in advance, and it is quoted separately from year end work so you can see what each costs.
Most clients photograph receipts into the software as they go, which takes seconds and removes the shoebox entirely. If you would rather hand over physical records, we will arrange that.
Yes, and it is more common than people admit. We will review what exists, rebuild what is missing and get you current, then keep it that way monthly so it does not happen again. We price the catch up work separately and quote it before we start.
Not usually. We work with all the main packages. If a change would genuinely help we will explain why and handle the migration ourselves.
If the business is stable and small, the year end may genuinely be enough and we will say so. If margins move, if you carry stock, or if you are making decisions on cash flow, monthly figures pay for themselves quickly. It depends on the business, not on what we would rather sell.
For VAT, yes, if you are registered. For income tax it applies from April 2026 to qualifying income over £50,000, dropping to £30,000 in April 2027 and £20,000 in April 2028. If you are a sole trader or landlord, it will reach you.
Within ten working days of the month end for clients on a monthly cycle, assuming records reach us promptly.
Yes. Payroll is quoted separately because it depends on headcount and pay frequency, but most clients who use us for bookkeeping use us for payroll too.
