Mukkarram Ali FCCA is a partner at Merit Accountants, with over a decade of senior financial leadership. He oversees our audit services and the outsourced finance function service, giving businesses that want senior eyes on their numbers the discipline of a group financial controller without the cost of an in-house team.
Qualifications and memberships
Mukkarram is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA). He refined his expertise at Deloitte, one of the Big Four accounting firms, and at other audit and accounting practices in London. Before joining Merit he was Group Financial Controller at one of the UK’s largest industrial property developers.
Audit and finance function work
Mukkarram leads statutory and voluntary audits across the firm, with Big Four experience from Deloitte and years spent running the finance function of a property group. Merit Accountants and Tax Advisors Ltd is registered to carry on audit work in the UK by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). While the audit is running we look at your controls, systems and tax position, and we report any control weaknesses and tax opportunities we find, so you get more from the audit than the opinion alone. Where something is worth acting on, the advice comes from Hussein Bhaiji rather than from the audit team, so the two stay separate.
He also leads our complete finance function service with Hussein Bhaiji. Growing businesses hand their bookkeeping, management reporting and financial oversight to Merit, and Mukkarram reviews the figures every month at controller level while Hussein reviews the same figures for tax. As financial controller of a major property group, he was the one preparing the reports. He has also built an e-commerce business of his own from nothing to over £1m in turnover, so he has sat on the other side of the table too, as the owner making decisions on them.
That background is particularly relevant to our construction and property clients and to e-commerce businesses.
Mukkarram reviews the figures in our clients’ management accounts for business performance before each review meeting, and does the same for every quarterly review under our outsourced financial controller service.
